David is an occasional blogger, software engineer, Nintendo fanboy, liberal, news magazine addict, voracious TiVo user, and bibliophile. He was born in St. Louis, grew up in southern Indiana, and returned to St. Louis to attend Washington University. He hasn't managed to escape yet. He's a fan of free wine tastings, too many tv shows to name, and eating out. David makes his living developing web applications used internally by his employer. He doesn't blog about work because he's heard too many stories about that causing workplace troubles. There's more on the about page. |

This has been just about the most stressful month in recent memory. At work we had a couple of contractors drop the ball on a high profile project after we'd already used up all the padding time in our schedule. Unfortunately, all of this became very obvious about two weeks ago, when I was filling in for my manager while she was on vacation. In the two work weeks since then, I've logged enough comp time to qualify me for a week of vacation and there's probably four or five days of work that we need to get done before we go to QA on Thursday. But, because nothing could be that simple, I don't have that much time because I have movers coming on Thursday to move my furniture to the new apartment. And because of all the extra work I've been doing, I haven't found a lot of time to pack, so that needs to happen sometime between now and then. So I'll probably be taking Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday off to pack, move, and unpack. So, unless things with this project at work start magically coming together on Monday -- and so far the pattern for this project has been that everything is worse than expected, not better -- I need to fit four days of work into two days. Which means this week will likely be worse than last week, which hardly seems possible.
If I find some free time, I'll post some details on the new apartment. Otherwise, perhaps I'll see you in a week.

Why does the real world have to be so real? Time to go back to school maybe?
