TV Turnoff Week

Gail Pennington:

I'm marking 'Put Down the Book Week,' in which I read no books for the next seven days. Locking up the library makes just as much sense as self-righteously blacking out a pipeline to so much information and entertainment.
I'm with Gail on this one. TV Turnoff Week is arbitrary and ridiculous. Why is TV considered so evil that we need to rediscover the joys of not having it on? NPR ran a piece on TV Turnoff week on Morning Edition today and they interviewed a guy whose family was participating. They turned off all TVs and computers and have spent the week playing War and Go Fish. Which sounds like the most boring thing ever.
