Ben Abell is Retiring

Bad news for those of you who enjoy Ben Abell's forecasts on KWMU: he announced last night that he was retiring at the end of April. Sadly, there is no meteorologist in St. Louis quite like Abell. The main thing I enjoy about his forecasts is the insight into how he arrived at the forecast that he drops into the message while telling you what the weather is going to be like. He'll be missed.

NO! I can't believe it. Meteorologist Ben Abell is one of my favorite local celebrities. I can't imagine KWMU without him.

I agree -- he's succinct and nonmystical and those attributes put him in a class all his own. I might be wrong, but I seem to recall KWMU using the FOX weather guy when Ben was on vacation. Nothing against him, as I can't even remember who he is, but I hope they find somebody more Ben-like.
