He was born in St. Louis, grew up in southern Indiana, and returned to St. Louis to attend Washington University. He hasn't managed to escape yet. He's a fan of free wine tastings, too many tv shows to name, and eating out. David makes his living developing web applications used internally by his employer. The New York Times Magazine article on hikikomori is really weird. I can't imagine kids shutting themselves into their bedrooms for years and years at a time while their parents continue to live int he same house and support them. The whole concept seems surreal, and if this weren't being published in a major newspaper I think I'd believe that it was all made up.
