STLtoday updated it's look today by "chang[ing] the color scheme of the site, dropping the blue and orange" and replacing it with in-your-face red, white, and grey. STLtoday has never been the best looking site around, but this is awful.

On the bright side they "anticipate a broader, more extensive redesign in the springtime." Hopefully, things will be slightly more subtle when they do a full redesign.

I was completely shocked when I saw that this morning. It is absolutely horrible. At least the blue was unoffensive...

I think sites need to start going the way of user customization. With CSS it isn't that hard. At least not in ASP. God only knows about in Lotus Notes, though.

The Post's site is probably the worst newspaper site in the country (for a paper of its size, that is). I had some run-ins with the web editor when I worked at the Journals; he seriously didn't have any design experience whatsoever, and this once again proves it.

The thing about this redesign is that I understand perfectly why they want to do it: associating their prodcuts together makes a great deal of sense. I'm just shocked at how in-your-face it is. It's also a bit disconcerting to have a hard border on the left with a much softer border on the right. If they defined the border at the right a bit better (that white field blends in too well with their content) I'd be better able to focus on the actual content instead of having my eyes jumping around the whole page.
