I don't think I've mentioned this here before, but if you know me in real life you have probably heard me complain about parking here at WashU. The combination of gestapo meter maids and not enough parking anywhere near where I want to park makes for an unhappy situation. Combine this with the fact that I routinely get tickets for parking next to my building, in a lot I paid $350 for the privelage of parking in, and the fact that many people without the proper permits quite often park in this same lot and never get tickets, and you find me not too favorably disposed toward WUPD or the parking masta foolyfools.
Now come the further developments that have caused me to wage war on WUPD.
Further development 1: the Thurtene Carnival is this coming weekend and this year it is being held in the parking lot near the AC. This is not a major problem, except that the parking lots near the AC, B-School, and Law School are all closed, and it seems that the spillover has been redirected into the blue lots near Millbrook, which are the only lots I can legally park in. So finding parking this week has been a major, major hassle.
Further development 2: according to signs posted on orange and white barriers placed around the parking lot near Millbrook 2 (my building), the lot that I normally park in will be closed for a special "Law School event" on April 12. This means that I have to move my car out of the lot by 9pm on April 11th or they will tow it out for me.
Combing these two developments together, I am left with the following thought. If there already isn't enough blue permit parking because of Thurtene, and they close a blue lot with over 100 parking spots, where the f*** am I supposed to park my car?
Now, I mentioned above that I am waging war on WUPD. For a normal person, this might involve sending a letter or email to the Transportation Dept., or perhaps going and complaining in person, but as many of you already know, I am not a normal person. Instead, I have devised a multi-part attack designed to let me leave my car where it is. Step one, which will be implemented tonight, involves removing all of the signs indicating that we aren't allowed to park in the lot on the 12th. Further steps involve finding the parking spot that will make it most difficult for them to tow my car, and then leave my car parked in such a way as to compound their difficulty in towing.
In order to be totally fair, I should mention that I've heard a rumor that blue permits are valid in yellow zones in the Millbrook garage for the duration of this week. Of course, yellow spots are rather hard to come by as well, so this doesn't fully solve my problem and will only anger yellow permit holders. Anyway, I'll update you on this situation as the week progresses.
