I think I've mentioned here before that I ordered an essentially free (after rebates and things) scanner from staples. Well, in order to get my order over $100 so I could apply a $20 off coupon, I ordered some paper clips (17 cents for the one box I ordered). My paper clips arrived a few days ago. The paper clips were standard paper clips, about 100 or so in a box about 2 inches wide, an inch deep, and 3/4 of an inch tall. However, staples decided to ship this tiny box of paper clips in a much, much larger box. Imagine my surprise when I open a box that was about a foot wide, 9 inches deep and 4 inches tall, only to find a bunch of paper shoved into the box in order to keep the single box of paper clips from rattling around. The best part of all this? Staples paid the shipping on my order. So for the 17 cent box of paper clips, they must have paid in excess of a dollar or two to package and ship them to me.
