I'm disappointed with "The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner" (by the now-defunct Ben Fold's Five). I'm afraid it just isn't of the same quality as "Whatever and Ever Amen." While I like a number of songs on "Unauthorized Biography," I'm mostly upset with the track arrangement. It seems to me that all of the slower-paced songs are at the beginning of the album, while the faster songs are at the end of the CD. Why couldn't they arrange the tracks on "Unauthorized" in the style of "Whatever," where the slow and faster paced songs were intersperesed throughout the entire album? As anyone who has ever been to a concert knows, you lose your audience when you don't vary the pace from song to song. I've been left with no choice but to burn my own "Unauthorized" (in more ways than one) CD, with slightly re-arranged tracks.
Before I leave you thinking that I hate "Unauthorized Biography," I should mention that I like more than half the tracks on the album, which is, for me, better than average. I usually buy CDs and only like one or two tracks, and then a few months later, after listening to the CD many, many times, come to appreciate the other tracks. With "Unauthorized," I find myself enjoying a lot of the tracks only a few days after receiving the album for Christmas. But I have been listening to the MP3s for a few months. Hmm...
I really don't like modems very much. In fact, if pressed I would probablt admit to hating modems. When I imagine Hell, I imagine spending enternity using telnet to type email messages over a modem connection. My parents need to get a faster Internet connection. I guess I've been corrupted by the crappy ethernet connection that I pay too much for at school.
